《廣論》196頁：“若經俱胝恒沙劫，淨心以諸妙飲食，傘蓋幢幡及燈鬘，承事百億俱胝佛。若于正法極失壞，善逝聖教將滅時，晝夜能行一學處，其福勝前俱胝倍。”。
For ten millions eons - as many as there are sands in the Ganges - I served with pure mind, food and drinks, umbrellas, banners, and processions of lamps to ten quadrillion Buddhas. So much greater is the merit of whoever practices a single training night and day at a time when the sublime teaching is perishing and the Sugata’s teaching is coming to an end.

Master Ri-Chang mentioned something in a similar vein in his Lamrim Commentary using a metaphor:

所以大家常常记得一个比喻：比如说现在我们这考学校，哎呀，说这个考学校真是千难万难哪！要考一个好学校啊！考一个好学校，当然啦，你有本事考上状元，那固然了不起；可是我始终有一个感觉啊：这个第一名跟最后一名当中，我觉得最后一名比第一名来得幸运。你们相信不相信这个话？第一名没关系，他第二名、第三名，不管他哪一名， (p127) 他总归进去了；可是最末一名的话，那差一点就完了！对不对？想想看。现在我们什么状态？记住：就是，我们就是这个最末一名哦！啊！所以前面没有好好地努力啊，但是我们总算努力地赶到最后一名啊！你只要进到这个最好的地方去，你肯努力的话，将来这个地方毕业的时候，你可以赶上第一名，这个很明白嘛！所以这几个概念哪，我前面一再跟大家说，跟大家打气的原因，就在这里。

To be able to encounter the precious Buddhist Teachings at a time when Buddhism is on the decline is such a fortune. We should cherish it and persist in our studies and our practice!
