A virtuous person does good and believes in Bodhisattva but still gets cancer and suffers much before passing on. Why?

Hi @julieng, totally agree we should dispel the notion that we will automatically get some form of immunity just because we are doing good deeds.

Sadly, I do. I expect that my prayers and actions will result swiftly in good things happening to me. And I am disappointed and demoralised when bad things continue to happen, causing me to question if I should continue with my practice. Master Ri-Chang disputes this in his Lamrim commentary: 这是为什么我们必定要正确地认识，如理地思惟的。要不然大家没有正确的这个认识，总把修行看成功什么？好像现修，现买现卖一样，对这个因果概念都弄不清楚，那个就错了，那完全错了！因为你因果概念弄不清楚，所以总觉得修行好像跑得来，这是一件应该快乐的事情嘛，跑得来要坐享其成，天下哪有这样的事情！绝不可能，自然而然你就不可能─小苦都忍不住，何况是大苦啊，前面这个整个的谈不到啦！ https://bwmonaster…
