Venerable Ru Jun shares this tip in his discourse (from 2:54 min mark to 4:10 min mark)
The gist I get is
- the moments before you sleep, you maintain positive thoughts (on Dharma, Buddha, Teacher etc)
- the immediate moments on waking up, you also generate positive thoughts
- the period of your sleep (between going to slumber and waking up) will generate Merits
Venerable mentions that this approach is supported in the Scriptures and is called 等起善.
