Actually a lot of people came to BWM looking to solve problems in their own life… similar to patients coming to look for a good doctor. In the process of trying to solve their own problems, they may not have the capacity yet to help others with their problems. So we really need to be kinder in our expectations of how people in BWM should be… some of them may already have so many personal problems to contend with in life that they can’t even help themselves… just that we do not know about it.
Sometimes, it may be that your friends outside of BWM happened to have the relevant experience or expertise to better solve your particular problem, which the friends of yours in BWM may not possess. But this shouldn’t be taken out of context to justify that friends outside of BWM are generally more helpful than friends in BWM.
I personally know of many helpful people in BWM; perhaps you may want to do more volunteering work in BWM to know more people 
It might not be that the BWM friends are not willing to help, but perhaps BWM friends do not know how to help on certain problems? There might be some problems which your friends outside of BWM are not able to help too, like chanting or making dedications for a sick friend, but many BWM friends I know will gladly chant away to dedicate to a sick person. But it does not mean that your friends outside of BWM do not care for you if they don’t chant, right?
